Along with the rapid development of national economy, especially after the releasing of ‘The Belt and Road’ initiative in this year, the China’s highway construction will be more and more developed, and the mileage of the expressway would also refresh the existing record. Due to the limitation of the highway’s service life, the majority of the highway pavements in early year’s construction have been broken and much of the damage is from pavement rutting disease endangering the security of driving. Therefore, the fast, efficient and accurate detection is important to the maintenance on the highway.This subject is from a project named multifunctional intelligent road detection vehicle, which is a shared project of Chang’an University and Anhui Expressway Group. This road detection vehicle is one of the scientific research achievements of the ‘high grade pavement laser detection technology and unitized detection equipment study’ which is the Ministry of transport’s the western traffic science and technology project. This paper has studied ‘based on the line laser rut detection’ which is the subsystem of the detection system. Based on the advanced detection technology at home and abroad and according to the function and technical indicators which the system needs to achieve, this paper selects the appropriate detection methods and then gives out a solution to the problem. This paper does the research on the following aspects:(1) After having researched and studied detection technology at home and abroad, combined the issues which need to be solved in this subject, selected an detection plan which is suitable for the system, comparative analyzed of the advantages and disadvantages of laser point and laser line, finally laser line is chosen to be the light source. In this paper, it combines digital image processing technology and to achieve the fast, efficient and high precision of the pavement detection.(2) According to the pavement detection environment and the requirement of detection condition, this paper selects the hardware equipment which is suitable for the system, including camera, image acquisition card and industry personal computer(IPC), etc., meanwhile;Meanwhile this paper does a deep research on two key technologies which are system calibration and image processing respectively. It provides the solution of system calibration through two-dimensional imaging equation calculating steps based on method of least square and selects the image processing algorithm to remove image noise and extract the light strips center accurately. It selects pavement image thinning algorithm which is suitable for this detection method in order to analysis of the image.(3) This paper chooses the representative road to do vehicle test, at the same time verifies the feasibility of this system, and then does the further adjustment and improvement according to the test results. Furthermore, it evaluates and analyses the depth of pavement rut.This study has important value in detecting the disease of pavement rut precisely and improving the capability of the road maintenance. It also has an important engineering practical meaning and theoretical research meaning in practical application.
