The development of information and telecommunication technology has greatly promoted the automation and informationization of modern logistics at all levels. This helps accelerate the development of the industry of modern logistics; however, the global efficiency of logistics processing and the consistency of the complete chain are still restricted by those operation links which yet need to be processed manually. This thesis focuses on one of the links, namely, the step of loading and unloading concerning the container operation of container crane in ports and docks; and it aims at solving the difficult problem of calibration and braking in operating the spreader of container crane into object location. It first analyzes the advantages and limitations of the present automatic terminal systems, points out the market gap between the automatic terminal systems and the container cranes with completely manual operation, then synthesizes the design concepts and technology integration methods of(1) automatic parking system for passenger vehicles and(2) precise auto-stop control system for rail vehicles, and finally designs an auxiliary system to help solve the calibration and braking problem. The construction of this system is based on such technologies as image recognition, binocular distance measurement and laser range-finding, and the functioning of the system involves the combination of manual operation and automatic control. It helps enable the container crane operators to complete calibration and braking and to move containers to their object locations. It promises the reduction of the operators’ labor intensity and the improvement of operation accuracy and security; therefore, it will enhance the global efficiency of container operation and the consistency of logistics process.
