Wireless LAN is an effective supplementary means to fixed and mobile communications networks, it is the focus of the traditional and mobile operators’s business development. Therefore, with the wide deployment of the urban Wireless LAN hotspots in public places, the WLAN security has become particularly prominent and significant. Due to the special radiation radio communications, and wireless space propagation open channel, there exist many security issues: fake attack, network fraud, theft, etc., Network operators and secure communication of information is greatly threatened, Wireless rogue AP(Access Point) attack is one of the most serious security issues.Normally, the wireless rogue APs will be deployed in the area of urban wireless hotspots or other hotspots by the attackers, A wireless rogue AP and legal authorized AP have the same wireless network configuration, such as SSID(Service Set Identifier), which makes the victim mistake rogue AP for legal one, resulting in a series of wireless network attacks, such as wireless Man-in-the-Middle attacks and wireless phishing attacks. Therefore, this thesis focuses on issues happened before the wireless network connection, or after users accesses the wireless network, and detect whether there exists wireless rogue AP in the target wireless network.Firstlly, this thesis describes the relevant principles of the wireless rogue AP, including the principle of the wireless rogue AP configuration and attack. Secondly, the thesis introduces the research status of the wireless rogue AP detection techniques, classification and comparison of the exiting detection techniques. The thesis proposes a kind of detection technique based on wireless devices fingerprinting for wireless rogue AP, which uses the inherent fingerprinting of the wireless devices to distinguish true and false AP. The fingerprinting of the wireless devices will be divided into two types:fingerprinting based on wireless and special MAC frame stimulus response. Experiments extract these fingerprinting of the wireless devices, and the experimental results show that the most of the wireless rogue AP can be detected. Finally, this thesis presents a user-oriented, lightweight, high efficient, wireless rogue AP detection scheme with low error rate.
