Underwater visible light communication(UVLC) is an emerging underwater wireless communication technology, which plays a crucial role in the sea exploitation and marine military affairs. UVLC can make up the disadvantages of underwater acoustic communication about the low speed and long delay, and overcome the communication problem about the high directivity of the underwater blue-green laser communication. This paper researches the underwater sensor network communication based on blue LED, develops the prototype system, and realizes the high speed data transmission in water.The main work of the paper is as follows:(1) This paper studies the attenuation characteristics of the visible light in water, and designs the UVLC transmitting module based on 1W blue LED. Since there are no special receiving modules for VLC, a low power consumption and high performance receiving module for VLC is designed.`(2) This paper describes the hardware design and production including underwater video sensor nodes, underwater temperature sensor nodes, and underwater gather nodes based on STC12C5204 AD and other low power consumption chips. For reducing the power consumption of the system, some measures are adopted.(3) This paper studies the UVLC networking, adopts the star networking, and finishes the design of the transmission control protocol and the nodes software based on the UART interface of STC12C5204 AD.(4) This paper finishes the performance tests of the prototype system including visible light link test, networking test in air and in the simulated sea water, and power consumption test. Through the performance tests, this paper verifies the design of hardware and software, and realizes the collection,transmission,and display of video and temperature information as a distance of 2m in air and a distance of 1.5m in water, respectively.
