It is common knowledge that ITS(Intelligent transportation system) plays an important role in managing traffic network and vehicle navigation system is a major components of ITS. In vehicle navigation systems, positioning accuracy and real-time performance is the basic requirement. At present, there has positioning error in almost all the vehicle navigation systems and it is difficult to improve the positioning error correction using the traditional means of hardware. Map matching is a kind of software technology, it uses the GPS receiver to obtain vehicle trajectory data and with electronic map in the atlas of the data matching, thus achieve the goal of fixed vehicle positioning trajectory. Map matching algorithm is simple, low cost, easy to implement. Therefore, it has been widely used in vehicle navigation system.Today, map matching algorithm is various and the quality and application environment are also different. This paper proposes an integrated algorithm based on the detailed analysis and comparison on the basis of the traditional map matching algorithm. The algorithm composite the improved track vertical projection matching method and calculates the matching method to match the GPS with the comprehensive judgment step. Through the experimental simulation, we can verify that the integrated map matching algorithm has high matching accuracy and better matching efficiency, meeting the demand for accuracy and real-time vehicle navigation system.
