With the rapid growth of population, the pace of human plundering natural resources continually accelerates, the natural environment was severely damaged, the wildlife habitat continuous loss, eventually led to the extinction of many wild animal species. Therefore, establish a wildlife digital museum, permanent preservation the digital information of extinct and endangered wildlife, which has great significance to the research and protection of wild animals. While the three-dimensional reconstruction and virtual visualization of wildlife is the core technology of the wildlife digital museum, which is also the main technology to attract tourists. At present, the mainstream CT image three-dimensional reconstruction technology is mainly divided into surface three-dimensional reconstruction and volume three-dimensional reconstruction. This paper applies the X-ray CT technique for wild Siberian tiger skull scanning, and using the multifractal spectrum theory for CT image edge detection. Determine the suitable threshold of Holder exponent a and the suitable threshold of multifractal spectrum f(α) through the theoretical calculation and experimental study, which for wild Siberian tiger skull CT image edge detection. Then develop the boundary contour CT image three-dimensional reconstruction and visualization system, which based on multifractal spectrum theory by using digital image processing toolbox of MATLAB.A series of CT scanning parameters were determined by a lot of theoretical analysis and experimental research. The CT scan voltage is 100KV, scanning current is 100mA, the scanning thickness is 2mm, window width is 3000Hu, and window level is 1000Hu.This paper use the MC surface reconstruction method based on VTK visualization toolkit and the multifractal spectrum boundary contour surface reconstruction method based on MATLAB image processing toolbox for wild Siberian tiger skull CT sequence images three-dimensional reconstruction, respectively. At the same time, this article is also realize the virtual cutting, free rotation and transparent display of the Siberian tiger skull three-dimensional reconstruction image by using the MATLAB image processing toolbox. The experimental results show that the the Holder exponent α can better reflect the local image characteristics, and the multifractal spectrum f(α) can better reflect the global characteristics of the image. Compared with the traditional edge detection method, the multifractal spectrum edge detection method can better reflect the change of bone density and reducing the generation of false edge. Compared with the classic MC surface three-dimensional reconstruction method, the multifractal boundary contour surface three-dimensional reconstruction method can obtain a more complete Siberian tiger skull three- dimensional reconstruction image, and the reconstruction speed is faster. In this paper, the method procedure is simple, operation is quickly and reconstruction effect is ideal. The use of Uigetfile sequence images calling function, make this program can be directly applied to three-dimensional reconstruction, virtual cutting, free rotation and transparent display of other wildlife bone sequence images. This method provide strong technical support for the establishment of wildlife digital museum.
