With the popularity of smart mobile devices in people’s production and life, indoor positioning methods for mobile platform have been growing more versatile. More people begin to use location service at work and in life, including destination navigation, museum guide, finding nearby stores and etc. So people put forward higher requirement for the location service, which is not only reflected in the timeliness and accuracy, but also reflected in the coverage. One important part of the requirements is indoor positioning. Since the satellite signals are vulnerable to obstacles blocking and the impact of multipath effects, technology for outdoor location cannot be used in indoor environment, so the research on indoor positioning has been the focus of scientific research. This paper studies indoor positioning methods and applications for mobile platforms, by using a radio signal receiver and inertial sensors on the mobile platform to achieve indoor positioning and provide location information for mobile environment scenarios. But now mature positioning methods and techniques are not for mobile platforms, and therefore not take into account the characteristics of the mobile platform devices:mobile devices can not only measure a variety of wireless signal such as WIFI, Bluetooth, etc., but also by MEMS inertial sensors installed can measure a variety of motion data pedestrians.Combined with the state of indoor positioning technology and mobile platforms, this paper propose methods in indoor positioning by using a radio signal receiver on mobile devices and MEMS inertial sensors. This method can used to access the user’s location continuously, and provide indoor location-based services for mobile platforms. The main work in the following three aspects:Firstly, by using statistical characteristics of the signal intensity values, we propose a new method based on the method of signal strength fingerprint. The method takes into account the random characteristic of signal strength measurements in indoor environments. By introducing the signal variance of the measured values, we improve the accuracy of positioning.Secondly, Location results based on the signal strength fingerprinting positioning method are susceptible to changes in the indoor environment. In order to adapt to the real-time location on mobile platform, we propose measuring the movement of pedestrians by the use of inertial sensors in mobile platform.Thirdly, by using a variety of positioning subsystem location information, we can improve the accuracy and stability of the positioning method. So this paper presents a method for fusing results of signal strength fingerprinting method and pedestrian position estimation method.
