Recently, LED(light emitting diode) has already attracted more and more attentions with its high luminous efficiency, energy-saving, environmental, and other advantages. Usually, high voltage alternating current(110V&220V) is used to our daily life, which makes that the monolithic AC LED be concerned as it can be driven by main AC power directly. Alternating current passing through AC LED makes luminous flux of AC LED not be simply multiplying by electric power and luminous efficiency. In this paper, luminance properties were studied based on AC characteristics and circuit structure of AC LED.Firstly, internal grain structure characteristics of AC LED were elaborated as well as the working principle of application circuit. Then, the operation performances of AC LED were analyzed in this paper. Based on alternating current effective current and light-emitting diode photoelectric characteristics, concept of AC LED equivalent luminous efficiency was introduced, and mathematical model concerning luminous flux and luminous efficiency on equivalent luminous efficiency and the number LEDs-connected in series were established separately. Luminous flux and luminous efficiency curves were drawn by MATLAB and character of actual luminous flux and luminous efficiency curve were discussed. AC LED source was prepared through remaking a LED corn lamp and testing equipment for validating theory analysis, experiment results accord with theory analysis. In the end, a method used to design AC LED was proposed in this paper, according to given luminous flux. Through the method theoretical AC LED luminous flux can be obtain, and the data parameters for AC LED circuit design is established finally.This paper analyses the luminescence properties of AC LED through theoretical analysis and experimental, then proposed a new design method that can design given luminous flux AC LED. Which provide a new idea and theoretical basis for the design of AC LED.
