The development of computer network technology and information technology make thelife of people change rapidly. People want to change their access to knowledge andinformation because the Internet technology has been rapid development and a large numberof search engine come into people’s lives, such as Baidu,Google,etc. Most traditional searchengines use text as their search condition which makes retrieval within certainlimitations.Recently Google and Baidu have launched their own software for recognizingpictures and this indicates that in the future, with the character that using images, audio, video,text as their retrieval condition diversity,and cross-media retrieval will be the future trend ofsearch engines and search platform. And now cross-media retrieval becomes a hotresearch.This paper try to build a platform for cross-media retrieval, so that people can easilyuse this platform to manage their own libraries to search for files, and they are free to add theirown search methods and corresponding search interfaces. They can be configured tocorrespond to the analytical method for each file format. On the basis of this idea I designedthis cross-media search platform.In the preparation stage of the paper, by reading a lot of literatures, I understand the basicprinciples and the research status of retrieval platform. In this article I explained thebackground and significance of cross-media search. Through literature and research status, Iunderstand the needs of the system in depth and have made a detailed survey of its operatingenvironment to determine its detailed functional and non-functional requirements.Basing on the detailed functional requirements, I made a detailed system design. In thefront page, I use ExtJS as my reception. In the interaction with the background, I use all theAjax asynchronous interaction techniques to increase the experience of users. In thebackground, I used traditional MVC design pattern to set up backstage. On the database side, Ichose mysql database.On the server side, I use Tomcat6.0as their server. Functionally, thesystem is divided into search module,file management module, user management analysisinterface management module, analysis interface configure module and file format module.
