With the rapid development of civil aviation, the electromagnetic environment of the airport and the surrounding becomes more complex, the effects of electromagnetic environment on the operational safety of civil aviation is also growing.However, the airport electromagnetic environment visualization is an important means to monitor electromagnetic signal distribution around the airport. The current research of electromagnetic environment visualization focuses on the military field, and research on civil aviation airport has just begun. To achieve the electromagnetic environment visualization of the airport and the surrounding, we at least need to resolve two issues, namely terrain visualization and distributed visualization of electromagnetic signals.This paper first describes the theory and method which involved implementing a three-dimensional scene visualization, then use the improved quadtree LOD model for processing massive terrain data, ultimately it finish rendering the terrain around the airport environment. In data processing, this paper optimizes the laws of the division and merger for the nodes, it also reduces the number of judgment when rendering the terrain mesh, it also reduces the computer’s memory footprint and improve the computer’s speed. On the same time, it renders more terrain detail.When rendering the effective distribution of the electromagnetic signal visualization, this paper exploratory summarized several rendering methods consistent with the terrain according to the characteristic of boundary data in the distribution of the electromagnetic signal. In order to increase the contrast and sharpness of the image which use electromagnetic visual models obtained with the terrain map, this paper present judgment criterion based on the level of detail of viewing distance for the size relationship between electromagnetic signal distribution grid map and viewing distance. This paper also put forward some improved recommendations and realization method for the electromagnetic environment visualization surrounding civil airports. The final results showed that the above theory and method complete the visualization of the navigation station in terrain of Guanghan airport, it also verificate the feasible of electromagnetic environment visualization in airport and the surrounding.
