As an important part of the Space-Ground Network, the satellite network has a lot of characteristics that are completely different from those of ground networks. According to these characteristics, we conduct the multi-path routing research in this paper, basing on some existing research results in satellite networks. The main content includes:a traffic light based multipath routing algorithm, a multiple connection based seamless link switch mechanism, and the research of above routing and switch problems in the software defined satellite network.The traffic light based multipath routing algorithm firstly calculates the routes at the ground center by combining the network topological structure, network load and link-state of each satellite. Then, it uploads the calculated route information to each satellite. On board, the algorithm will dynamically adjust the pre-calculated routes, according to the color of traffic light at each direction. The traffic data will thus be assigned to one or more appropriate directions for transmission. The color of traffic light indicates the congestion degree at each direction, which is determined the buffer queue occupancy rate at current hop and the total queue occupancy rate at the corresponding next hop. In addition, to deal with the surging traffics at one direction in a short time, a public waiting queue in introduced at each satellite to temporarily store those packets which would be discarded for the overflow of buffer queues. The seamless link switch mechanism is implemented by early connecting to the next accessing satellite and adopting multipath end-to-end parallel transmission. Finally, through introducing the idea of software defined networking, this paper puts forward a new kind of satellite network architecture. The research of multipath routing and switch is also discussed in this new satellite network architecture.
