With the popularization of wireless access technologies like 3G/4G and the rapid development of mobile phones/tablet PC, there is an explosive growth of mobile applications as well as the data generated by these applications. Among which, the content retrieval traffic make up the majority, with VoD and APP downloading being representative ones. Although the bandwidth of access networks and core networks is continually increasing, the ever-growing demand of high quality content and the mismatch between the underlying Internet’s end-to-end communication primitive and the content retrieval application model are the root causes of various problems, for example, VoD is not fluent and APP downloading takes too much time. This causes people to rethink how to improve the efficiency of content delivery in mobile applications. In my engineering master’s degree theses, under the support of the national 863 project in Institute of Information Engineering CAS, we proposed a solution in order to optimize the content delivery efficiency. The idea of the solution is to reduce the "distance" between users and content. We aim to push the caches down to the network edge--1~3 hops to the user equipment, providing content acceleration service at the network edge. Meanwhile, we use caching controller to coordinate multiple cache nodes with the goal of maximizing each cache node’s utility. On the basis of the above design, we implemented a mobile application-oriented HTTP cache system, reducing the "distance" between users and content to accelerate mobile application’s network speed. Laboratory experimental results show that the system can save 90% or more waiting time in downloading if the content has already been cached in the system. This master’s thesis is supported by the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), the major research work was done during author’s practice period in Institution of Information Engineering CAS.
