The Finite Element Method (FEM) is one of one of the major numerical methods in computational electromagnetics and it is capable of modeling complicated structures as well as inhomogeneous materials. This paper focuses on mesh generation with several kinds of FE elements and calculates the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of 2D objects. It starts from the basic concept and calculation formula of RCS and gives out a simple outline of RCS calculation methods. Then it analyzes essential processes of FEM/BEM (Boundary Element Method) for 2D objects’ RCS. For mesh generation, it adopts three kinds of elements to mesh objects and introduces interpolation theories of three different elements. They are eight-node isoparametric element, second-order curve edge triangular element and hexagon(polygon) element. It successfully generates the meshes of these elements and demonstrates a series of RCS calculation results of 2D objects based on the former two elements. It shows that numerical results are in excellent agreement with reference results.
