Influence Of Attention Resource On Embodied Facial Expression Recognition

Recently, embodied cognition has acquired more and more attention, especially from emotion, language,cognitive decision-making and other empirical evidence to support in the field of psychology.And embodied cognitive school thought that the body plays an important role in the individual cognitive activities, namely the individual cognitive and mental are deeply rooted in the physical structure of the individual and the body and the environment interaction.Embodied cognition was induced to emotion cognition,which means the embodied emotion theory emerged.The theory thought that when the body movements are controlled,they can make an individual’s mood change and can have an influence on individual’s perception, and expression and manufacture process.Since the theory proposed, it is supported by a series of empirical research, but there are also some research did not find the embodied emotion.Whether Effron (2006) using facial expression control technology to evaluate facial images, or Niedenthal (2001) using neuroscience method measuring the influence of the movement of facial expression recognition,they both try to explore the importance of the body in facial expression recognition.When attention resources is, individual will pay attention to the negative stimuli especial threatening stimulus and show that the psychological and behavioral response priorities, namely negative bias phenomenon.Peng and zhou et al. (2005) argue that the human visual system for resources processing is limited, which determines on current information processing when we select and trade-offs, and these are associated with attention resources.Predecessors about attention and facial expression recognition of the embodied study, mostly by manipulating attention of perception conditions, namely change the stimulus presentation time to study facial expression recognition.While this study combined with manipulation stimulation rendering time and two ways to explore clues-target paradigm embodied facial expression recognition, in order to from the characteristics of time and space distribution of attention to examine effect on face recognition of the embodiment.At the same time, due to the face recognition and in addition to the affected by the attention resource, but also affected by individual differences subjects, especially the subjects state anxiety level, therefore this research takes the normal individuals to participate in the study.In study l,we select some normal college students as the research object,while we use image judgment tasks,and manipulate attention resource which means to change the stimulus perception condition.then we set the target stimulus presentation time respectively for 30 ms and 200 ms, the attention resources are divided into two kinds of conditions.the task is to determine the nature of the target stimulus.so we can find out the effect of attention resource processing to emotional stimuli.The results show that when we present positive image,the accuracy of holding a pen using only the lips is higher;When present negative images, accuracy higher than teeth bite pen pen of the time.This and previous studies of facial expression recognition and consistent, proved in the attention resources are in a "scarce-relatively sufficient" range, there is a embodied facial expression recognition.In study 2,we select normal college students as the research object,and take the classic facial muscle control pattern,one is holding a pen using only the teeth (that is, the expression of "smile") and holding a pen using only the lips(that is, the expression of "not smile");On the manipulation of attention resource still use the limited resources and sufficient resources in two kinds of conditions.At the same time, the participants need to determine the nature of emotional stimuli.The current research got the following conclusions:(1)When the attention resources in "extremely scarcity-relatively sufficient" scope.The normal individuals which is lack of attention resources have positive emotion advantage to emotional stimuli;while individuals under the condition of abundant attention resources also positive emotion advantage.(2) When the attention resources in " extremely scarcity-abundant" scope.When lack the attention resource,the embodied emotion has emerged.which means the recognization speed of positive facial expressions is fastter when holding a pen using only the teeth (the expression of "smile");while,when holding a pen using only the lips(the expression of "not smile"),it promoted the recognization speed of negtive facial expressions. when attention resources is abundant, emotion processing did not reflect embodied emotion,which means the facial muscles control pattern to the influence of emotion processing is affected by the attention resource.
