With the development of cloud computing applications, the traditional intra-datacenter network based on the electronic switching technique will confront big challenges. Such a type of datacenter network has complex network topology, which shows a low scalability and high limitation of network capacity upgradation. On the other hand, the development of fiber-optics communications enable the commercialization of the wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) technique and fast progress of the optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(O-OFDM) technique. In this thesis, we apply the optical networking technique to intra-datacenter networks. A novel cube-based intra-datacenter network architecture is studied from the performance perspectives of throughput and average packet delay compared to the traditional Fat-tree-based electronic intra-datacenter architecture. The simulation results show that the cube-based intra-datacenter architecture is superior in network throughput compared to the Fat-tree architecture. In addition, because the O-OFDM technique is promising in spectrum utilization, based on the Cube architecture, we evaluate how different routing strategies and spectrum assignment approaches can impact lightpath service blocking performance and spectrum slot usage within the intra-datacenter all optical networks. The results show that joint consideration of the spectrum usage status on the links in the whole network can significantly improve lightpath blocking performance and spectrum utilization.
