With the development of science and technology, the awareness of security has been enhanced, which lead that a lot of monitoring infrastructures are widely mounted in public. It’s getting more and more important to identify people by the video information of the acquisitions from monitors. Gait recognition, relying on people’s walking posture to make the identifications, is of non-invasion, non-contact,easy concealment. All of its characteristics are very suitable for intelligent monitoring. Therefore, gait recognition gets widely concerned and researched.Gait recognition is studied by the video of people’s walking posture, whose hardcore is mainly about extracting suitable gait feature which takes advantage of classifier to express people’s walking characters. Gait recognition involves many fields, including digital image process, computer vision, pattern recognition, etc.Now, the extracting of feature of gait recognition is the main task in the whole study. This paper proposes a kind of manner by fusing the characteristics of partial contour and GEI, and mainly details the extraction and fusion. The research and innovation of this paper is put as follows:1. Proposing a way of extracting the characteristics of partial contour. First of all, by backgrounds difference image method and mathematical morphology method, detect the human’s movement whose picture is uniformized, then using the aspect ratio of targeted outline to detect the period of gait. Secondly, calculate the distance from all the contour points to the centroid by dividing the integral gait contour and extracting the contour of arms swing. Finally, obtain the feature of the gait partial contour by PCA to reduce dimensions of feature space.2. Calculating gait energy image. Obtain more information of dynamic energy from GEI. Gain motion character of people by two dimensions PCA to reduce dimensions of feature space.3. Proposing the way of gait identification in which fuse the two features. Fusing the two features is adopted to weighted addition combination. Analyze and identify the fused gait feature by vector machine. The test suggests that this proposal is reasonable and advisable.The test suggests that the way of fusing the features of partial contour and GEI is effective, which has the value of reference on gait recognition.
