The Zig Bee-based wireless sensor network is widely used in production and daily life because of its unique advantages of low power consumption, low cost and easy deployment. However, with the promotion and development of wireless sensor networks, its security issues have got more and more attentions. So the efficient and applicable security mechanism has become one of the major technologies had to achieved in wireless sensor networks. In addition, because the information collected and perceived by wireless sensor network nodes will have the practical value only combined with its location information, therefore, node localization has become the basis of wireless sensor network technology for various practical applications. In this paper, we mainly reviewed and analyzed the present security mechanism and positioning technology in wireless sensor networks; introduced the theory and implementation process of AES encryption/decryption algorithm in detail; and designed a novel APIT localization algorithm which does not depend on the neighbors. We first introduced the current research actuality of the security and positioning technology in wireless sensor networks and briefly analyzes the functions and operation mechanism of Zig Bee protocol and its application. Then, we focuses on studying the current security mechanisms used in Zig Bee-based wireless sensor network protocol layers, and detailing the theory and implementation process of security mechanisms, i.e., AES encryption/decryption algorithm. Finally, we classified the current typical wireless sensor network localization algorithms, and analyzed the relative merits of various algorithms. And we proposed a novel APIT localization algorithm which does not depend on the neighbor nodes. Through MATLAB simulation to verify the performance of the algorithm, the results shown that the algorithm eliminated the requirements of network nodes and anchor node density, and it has a higher positioning accuracy and more stable performance.
