Wireless sensor network with low-power has been widely used in many fields through data transmission of distributed, self-organizing network. Becauce the micro-controllers of Zig Bee chip cannot meet the complex requirements of system, it is a research focus in the future to design corresponding So C depending on demands to meet the user’s requirements for wireless sensor networks function, based on Zig Bee wireless networks. With the rapid development of FPGA technology, application-oriented So C design becomes a new solution. Thus, the study of design and verification for FPGA-based wireless sensor network So C is of great practical significance.In this paper the Zig Bee protocol architecture and technology of So C design using FPGA are introduced in details. According to the functional requirements of wireless sensor network, the system solution to So C nodes is designed. And an in-depth study is conducted in the So C system on the function and structure of MCU, the media access control layer(MAC) protocol architecture, system integration and communications test. Specific paper work and the main results are as follows.(1) Design and validation of So C node system of wireless sensor network. According to the system, functional modules of MCU IP core compatible with 8051 instruction set and interrupt system are designed and implemented. According to the MAC of Zig Bee Protocol, send and receive modules of MAC is designed. Of which the send module contains the four basic modules such as frame header, send FIFO, state machines and frame check module. Receiving module contains the basic modules of frame detection, decode, address matching, frame check and receive FIFO. The simulation of MCU IP core is completed and the MAC verifying platform is built on the FPGA Development Board. The platform includes RF chip and serial port for communitication with PC. It is validated that data is written to the send FIFO via a serial port on PC, then sent out through the RF chip, and receiving module receives wireless data through the RF chip, then data is written to the receive FIFO and sent to PC via a serial port.(2) Test of the So C nodes communication of wireless sensor network. According to the communication needs of wireless sensor network node, the So C node testing program is developed. Firstly, wireless So C is integrated by MCU bus module signals connecting to corresponding signals of MAC module, while interrupt mode is used to detect the sending and receiving of data in wireless network. And then, a communication test platform is built. RF chip and FPGA form a Soc node to be validated and the MSP430 microcontroller and RF chip are used to build the other verifying node. Based on the Zigbee Protocol, basic communications protocol program is coded, and the communication between nodes is sent to PC by a monitor node. FPGA communication functions is verified.In thesis, wireless sensor network So C is designed and implemented based on Zig Bee. The FPGA-based testing validation of So C is completed. It can transmit wireless data in the interrupt mode. This work is of great value for the So C design of wireless sensor networks.
