With the development of computer and Internet, the traditional way of learning is changing slowly. Online learning is attracting more and more attention, because it overcomes the restrictions of time and space. But online learning continues to be a boring process and lack of interactivity, and it can’t improve learners’ motivation and effectiveness in essence. Game-based Learning(GBL) as a new way of learning, combining the advantages of computer games and online learning, both to meet the needs of people to learn anytime, anywhere, and increase the fun of learning activities. The Computational thinking has produced a strong response in the domestic computer science and been a nature, essential way of thinking, and also became one of the most common and suitable basic skills like reading, writing and arithmetic since it was put forward in 2006.In the current background, having the ability of computational thinking, being able to use computer science and methods to solve the respective areas of expertise is the essential quality of top talents. Therefore, not only university general education should undertake the important mission of training the Computational Thinking ability of college students, but also make full use of the modern technology platform to cultivate and foster talents with Computational Thinking. Combined with the efficient and fun of the GBL, this paper designed and developed the Game-Based Learning System based on Computational Thinking(GBL-CT). By the development of games adapted from some classic problems in computer science, it could increase the fun of learning activity and make the learners quickly understand what is Computational Thinking and train their Computational Thinking ability. Specifically, the main contents of this paper include:1).Discuss the Computational Thinking theory in an innovative way, expand it to four dimensions as follows: from algorithm science to algorithm thinking; from network science to network thinking; from data science to data thinking; from system science to system thinking. The abstract Computational Thinking concepts should specific to computer-related disciplines, promoting the Computational Thinking from thinking to the level of real life.2).Focus on the research of three classic problems in computer science: the Tower of Hanoi, the Traveling Salesman problem and the Eight Queens. Analysis of the complexity of the classic Towers of Hanoi problem and its generalization, verify several optimization way of the traveling salesman problem and the characteristics of the eight queens, finally elaborate their game guidance about above problems.3).Propose a simulation experience game-based learning design framework combining the basic concepts of computer science like recursion, divide and conquer, back-track and the game elements like the narrative, the place, the roles and the assessment feedback of the classic problems.4).Design and develop the Game-Based Learning System based on Computational Thinking in the background of three classic problems in computer science is a new attempt combining computational thinking and game-based learning, through some basic concepts and arithmetic embodied in the games, learners experience the fun of the games and understand and train the Computational Thinking at the same time.
