This paper introduced the research and application of fiber optic temperature sensors, fiber optic flow sensor and fiber vibration sensor in the engine tests, explained the advantages of fiber optic sensors compared to conventional sensors. The theoretical analysis and structural design of sensors were conducted, and finally made the relevant experiments.Firstly, the temperature sensor has been studied. Combined the structural characteristics of fiber optic sensing principle and the engine cylinder head, we have designed fiber optic temperature sensing probes and cylinder head temperature testing program. The sensor probes and test program firstly applied to the cylinder head temperature measurement of six-cylinder diesel engine in Shandong University internal combustion engine laboratory. After this successful test, the testing technology has applied to a new one-six-cylinder head temperature developed by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Technical CenterThen, we studied the vibration sensors used in Vibration test of diesel, discussed the principle of fiber grating vibration testing. Combined with the structural characteristics of the diesel engine, we designed optical fiber vibration sensor. After the sensor design is complete, the sensor structure finite element simulation was made by ANSYS. On the basis of the simulation results, we manufactured the optical fiber vibration sensor. Linearity, sensitivity and other parameters of optical fiber vibration sensor were obtained through comparison test with standard charge vibration sensor, and then, the vibration sensor is applied to the vibration test Lainei 1110 horizontal bar diesel engine, diesel engine vibration signal has been tested at different speeds.Then, we made a preliminary study of fiber grating sensors in the engine intake air flow tests, Described characteristic parameters of the flow. FBG flow sensor model based on a cantilever structure was designed which could simultaneously measure intake air temperature and intake air flow. Finite element analysis could obtained the best angle and the best location of cantilever structure, which could provide evidence for sensor manufacture.Finally, our work is summarized; the work need to be perfected for further improvement is proposed and the future work is discussed.
