2014 is a brand-new era for four-generation Internet. Optical fiber communication has been obliged to develop a lot to meet larger demand of ours who live in this information explosion society.As an important part of optical fiber communication technology, laser need to improve its performance and be fit in the Photonic integrated circuits. So, we focus on lasers and invest their properties.Innovation of the structure makes influence in the lasers’history. This era is an era of optics, such as optical communication, optical devices, and photonic integrated circuits would assist the set-up of all optical networks and change the world.From 1962 when the first semiconductor laser came into being in the world, the semiconductor laser’s history went through a magnificent epic. Investors made the laser’s output wavelength range expanded from the visible light zone to ultra violet zone, and even infrared zone in the same year. Then they made efforts in electron beam and ways of pump, which led to the birth of a laser of continuous light in room temperature.Now, lasers have great performance, however, how to obtain higher cost-efficiency, and compatibility in Photonic integrated circuits are important barriers when we make the laser practical.We need a lighter,more stable, greater laser. The most common application in optical fiber communication system are Fabry-Perot laser,distributed-feed-back laser, (FP-LD), distributed feedback laser (DFB-LD), Distributed Bragg Reflector laser (DBR-LD), Vertical Cavity Surface laser(VCSE-LD), and External Cavity laser (EC-LD).Fabry-perot laser is suitable in low-speed optical fiber communication system but not high-speed, for its low cost and small threshold current; distributed Bragg Reflector laser could tune in a large wavelength range but not good stability and controllability are the biggest disadvantage:Vertical cavity surface laser could tune output wavelength precisely while its large internal resistance limited its development; at last, the distributed-feed-back laser, whose advantages are single mode feature and high-speed modulation, need to solve the fabrication problem.In 2004,Professor Chen put forward reconstruction equivalent chirp technology based on sampling grating. They make the difficult of the production process down to sub-micro dimesion, meanwhile the production are as good as the lasers made by electron beam lithography technology. It makes true that DFB lasers become a laser suitable for large-scale industrial production with great performance and low cost. REC technology is proved to be practicable theoretically and experimentally. The performance of the packaged REC-DFB laser is worth for anticipating. Then in this paper, I made a comprehensive analysis of the various performance indicators of the REC-DFB laser, through designing various experiments.Through the curve of the P-I characteristic, we can get the threshold current of the laser is as small as 17mA. What is more, it show a good linear. When the laser is bias at the threshold current, the lasing wavelength is 1500.470nm. An analysis of the redshift is given in this paper. We can get the modulation characteristics through the test of the small signal frequency response and 1 dB compression point. The response of the laser is very flat at low frequency. And the 3dB modulation bandwidth is tested to be above 10 GHz. As the temperature is an important factor for a laser on work, the author gives a series of experiment to study the influence of various performance indicators caused by changing temperature.In the end of this paper, considering the laser’s good performance of modulation, the author proposes a new scheme of Radio-over-Fiber uplink. Then the author demonstrates the feasibility of the new idea by experiment and date analysis. And it gives the prospect of the application in the road of miniaturization and integration of remote antenna unit.
