A lot of electronic original devices have been developed with the development of science and technology. Opto-electronic devices have made a great progress in a new wave of science and technology, and thus promote the optical fiber communication technology to a higher level. A variety of fiber optic components have been developed by the researchers in recent years, and fiber grating is arguably the most representative in the field of communication opto-electronic devices. Nobel laureate Chinese-American scientist Charles Kao has come up with a breakthrough point of view, which the optical fiber can replace the traditional transmission cables to transmit information. A lot of experiments demonstrate that the optical fiber was suitable for long distance transmission, this major research laid the theoretical foundation of optical fiber communication technology. Fiber Bragg grating was invented in 1978, which has changed the structure of many optical components. The long period fiber grating as a new type of optical fiber passive components has developed very rapidly in the field of opto-electronic devices. Many fabrication methods of long period fiber grating was emerged with the development of long period fiber grating for the communication.The ink-jet printing technology is a new type of micro processing technology, which has the advantages of low cost, high accuracy, no harm to the environment and so on. The ink-jet printing technology can be used in biological medicine, tissue cells, electronic printing, material analysis, industrial design, micro-optics devices, solar cells, etc. As the miniaturization of electronic equipment, ink-jet printing technology was subject by more and more researchers’ attention.In this paper we proposed a new fabrication method for long period fiber grating, which is based on ink-jet printing technology. We use the photo-resist cover on the surface of photo-sensitive fiber as amplitude masks through ink-jet printing technology. Then the long period fiber grating was written by the UV light with wavelength of 248nm. The advantages of this method include low-cost, quickly, simplicity, and the period of long period fiber grating can be flexible adjustment. We also fabricated a nested grating, which is composed of Bragg grating and long period grating. We investigated its current sensing properties. In the first chapter, we introduce the background and characteristics of the inkjet printing technology as well as the main research direction at present stage. Then, we state the research content and purposes of this paper.In the second chapter, we firstly introduce the development and classification of fiber Bragg grating. Secondly, we summarized and analyzed several common production methods of long period fiber grating, and made a simple analysis of the coupled-mode theory of long period fiber grating. Finally introduces preparation of production technology of long period fiber grating by the ink-jet printing technology.In the third chapter, we introduce the development of the fiber Bragg grating filter. Then, we proposed a new production process of embedded fiber Bragg grating, and the method of a compact set of embedded optical fiber grating wavelength filter in this paper.In the fourth chapter, we firstly introduce the application background and characteristics of optical fiber current sensor. Secondly, we design a new type of optical fiber current sensor based on the temperature effect of grating, which the nested grating surface have been plating high resistance rate of nickel and iron layer. We introduce the production process in detail of the nested grating current sensor in addition. At the same time, we analyzed the result of the experiment.In the fifth chapter, we introduce the summary and review of this paper, and then put forward the outlook of this paper.
