With the development of the wireless communication, UWB antenna is a widely applied, especially in short distance wireless communication system. Printed monopole antenna is a common structure of UWB, which draw widespread attention these days because of the advantages of wide band, low profile, easy to be integrated. The UWB antenna is studied and designed in this paper. The main contents are as follows:To begin with, the status of research and development of the UWB antenna, several important parameters and some classic numerical analysis methods are presented. At the same time, characteristic parameters and analysis method for UWB antenna is also introduced.Furthermore, according to the design demand of ultra-wideband antenna, sensitive parameters of printed monopole antenna are simulated and the influences of parameters for antenna are analyzed in this paper. The results of reflection coefficient, radiation pattern and gain curve are given. Then, a printed semi-monopole antenna, two band notched antennas and the antenna according to current distribution are designed.Finally, a compact ultra-wideband micro-strip antenna is designed. It obtains a wider bandwidth by employing a glass-like patch, the tapered feed line and the defected ground structure fed. It has a simple structure and compacted size of 28 mm×30 mm. The antenna is simulated and optimized using CST. The measured result shows that the relative bandwidth of the antenna is over 170.1%(2.4~30 GHz) for S11 less than-10 dB. The measured results agree with the simulated one.
