With the development of cloud computing and virtualization, lots of scholars have paid great attentions in this field. As the key technology to implement cloud computing, virtualization and image files can be used in datacenters to optimize resources. However, the problem of how to manage these image files, especially the efficiency of deployment, hasn’t caught the attention of scholars. If we can design and implement such a system, which focus on the management of image files, the speed of deploying cloud services will definitely be increased and the efficiency of the cluster will be improved as well.The paper is aiming to develop a comprehensive virtual image management system in IaaS, which includes all operations about images and can improve the efficiency of deployment. First of all, the system needs to meet all of the users’ demands and improve the efficiency of deployment. What’s more, the system also needs to have good performance and show excellent reliability, extendibility, readability and portability. With all these can it provide users a fully functional platform. People can not only use it to manage image files, but also to add it to other systems in cloud service easily, like virtual private network system. So this virtual image management system is designed with a structure of high cohesion and loose coupling hierarchy, which contributes a lot to the migrate of the whole system in future.The main content of the paper is to design and implement a virtual image management system in IaaS. To achieve such a system, the research of cloud computing and virtualization is needed to make sure the requirement of the system. After analysing and summarizing, the final function of the system includes uploading and deploying image files, updating image message, checking md5and so on. Based on the demand, the paper shows a topology aware algorithm which can be used to deploy image files. The paper also introduces the design of the whole system and the critical modules. To test and varify the rationality of the system, several test cases are provided and passed. At last, a summary of the whole paper and several advises about the paper is presented.
