In recent years, with the spread of mobile Internet and the growth of smart phones, people are demanding higher experience when watching videos or TV shows on their mobile terminals, Mobile media streaming has been developed rapidly. According to statics,70percent of mobile internet traffic is used for online-streaming audio or video data, thus the media streaming services is more and more important in online business. However, different manufactures have their own streaming protocols which is not compatible with each other. Meanwhile, those protocols lack a highly efficient broadcast-control mechanism, so the development of media streaming service is limited. In this case, to research a compatible protocol is of great significance for the development of streaming service, and the study of broadcast-control mechanism is significant for the promotion of user experience. The MPEG-DASH standard, which is raised by the MPEG committee for the standardization of the delivery of multimedia content, is compatible with common platforms. A mobile system based on MPEG-DASH can solve problems mentioned above, so the research and implements of MPEG-DASH client have broad application prospects.Aiming at the current situation of media streaming protocols, this paper proposes and implements a mobile multimedia client based on MPEG-DASH. We also propose a buffer based approach to adapt video segments in dynamic HTTP streaming, it can dramatically improve the user experience. The main and innovatory results are as follow:1. This paper proposes and implements an Android terminal+Apache HTTP server multimedia system, it is constitute of an Android client and tools to create media content. It offers a complete solution for the media streaming services. 2. This paper also proposes an improved buffer based adaptive streaming mechanism. It has the advantage of less switch frequencies between segment rates and a higher bandwidth utilization. Experiment shows this mechanism can notably improve user experience.
