With the advancement of industrialization in our country, the application of automatedmachinery is more and more widely. In mechanical movement, axial work pieces belongs tothe core components, the axial work pieces machining accuracy directly affects themechanical movement indicators, which affect running state and service life of the wholeautomation machinery, especially in precision instruments, the accuracy requirement of axisoften leading to micron level. In recent years, along with the rapid development ofautomobile industry of our country, for the development of low fuel consumption, lowpollution of automobile engine, the engine parts, especially the size of the axial parts designmust be accurate, in the safety of the vehicle movement level, such as car wheel, steeringshaft, etc., the machining accuracy even directly determines the safety factor of the vehicle. Inthe process of precision machining for these artifacts, precise measuring equipment must beneeded. But, in the aspect of high precision size detection in China, Technical shortcomingsare obvious, thus largely restricted the industrialization of our country, at the same time alsocontributed to China’s industrial companies to rely on foreign technology. To cater to theindustry’s rapid development momentum, fill the blank in axial high precision detection inour country, this paper developed an instrument based on machine vision for axial workpieces non-contact size detection--The fully automatic precision measuring instrument forlong axis.In this paper, the main research contents include:1. Maked the overall design scheme of size measurement of axial work pieces,determined a design to use a single optical sensors to realize high precision detection.2. Studied the working principle of the optical size sensor, analyzed of the dataacquisition and processing thoroughly.3. Designed and implemented the image processing and analysis software of the equipment in this paper, in which analyzed and formulate the measure implementationmethods of indicators of axial work pieces.
