Channel capacity and spectrum efficiency can be greatly improved by MIMO (Multiple-InputMultiple-Output) technology without increasing the transmit power and bandwidth. So the MIMOcommunication system has been widespread concerned by the researchers all around the world.Roughness is important for MIMO wireless channel especially in mine laneway and complexindoor environment. In this thesis, the effect of roughness on MIMO system is researched based onthe method of Shooting and Bouncing Ray (SBR). The theoretical support for the design of MIMOwireless communication system is provided by above results.The main contents and the contributions are expressed as follows:(1) In this thesis, the theory foundation of the ray tracing method has been brieflydiscussed. The basic principles of using the method of Shooting and BouncingRay(SBR) to investage MIMO communication system have been introduced.(2) The software of Wireless InSite based on the method of SBR has been used to modeland analyze the wireless communication system in mine laneway. The simulationresults have been compared with measured results to verify the correctness andeffectiveness of the SBR method. The simulation results have a good agreement withmeasured results. The relationship between Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and channelcapacity is verified. The correctness of this thesis has been verified.(3) The effect of roughness on the propagation characteristics and the channel capacity ofMIMO communication system have been researched in complex indoor environment.The relationship between roughness and received power, RMS-delay spread andchannel capacity of MIMO communication system have been investigated.Meanwhile, the relationship between frequency and those channel parameters hasbeen simulated when the roughness value is fixed.(4) In long straight mine laneway, the effect of roughness on received power, RMS-delayspread and channel capacity of MIMO system has been simulated. The relationship ofroughness and the three channel parameters mentioned above has been gotten. Thecomparison and analysis of the cumulative distribution function(CDF), probabilitydistribution and spatial distribution of channel capacity has been carried in detail withdifferent roughness. (5) In curved mine laneway, the effect of roughness on the propagation characteristics andchannel capacity of MIMO system has been investigated in LOS and NLOSenvironment. Meanwhile, the reason of difference influence degree of roughness onreceived power, RMS-delay spread, channel capacity is analyzed.
