In recent years, with the rapid development of wireless mobile communication technologies, the demand forhigh-bandwidth, high-efficiency, high-quality and low-latency service is increasing. Device-to-device (D2D)communication technology, which allows terminals to connect and communicate directly, becomes a research hotspot. Compared to cellular communication, D2D communication can decrease the load of BS, reduce thetransmission power of terminal and improve resource utilization. Meanwhile, the measure of the quality ofcommunication is significant to develop the D2D communication technology. Hence, the thesis researches theD2D system in the perspective of transmission capacity and resource sharing mode. The transmission capacity in the thesis is defined as the number of successful transmissions taking place inthe network per unit area, which is based on the LTE-Advanced cellular system. Firstly, the thesis introduces thekey techniques of LTE-Advanced system, discusses the advantages of the D2D system underlayingLTE-Advanced cellular network, and presents the procedure of terminal detecting and D2D session setup. Thethesis also researches the different ways to share the resource of cellular system, including orthogonal andnon-orthogonal modes.Furthermore, the thesis focuses on the research of SINR and transmission capacity of D2D pairs in theLTE–Advanced cellular system, which are equipped with single or multiple antennas. D2D users can re-use thecellular resource orthogonally or non-orthogonally and the thesis derives the expression of outage probability andtransmission capacity in different resource sharing modes, which is verified through simulation results. Finally, the thesis researches the transmission capacity when distributed power control and random power control isapplied in the D2D system, which are based on fixed SINR target and random transmission power in a certainrange, respectively.
