More than thirty years have passed by, since the day the Internet was born. Now, the Internet has become an indispensable part of people’s daily life. The number of hosts connected to the Internet is constantly increasing, and the number of Internet users is also growing rapidly, all these we mentioned have contributed to the rapid development of the Internet. With the development of the Internet, a growing number of technical problems began to be exposed, and these technical problems exposed during development of the Internet make the study of the architecture of the Internet become an important issue. This article researches the Internet architecture, mainly focusing on the lack of IP address space and routing table explosion, and try to find out a better way to solve these two problems.To effectively solve the problems such as the shortage of address space and the explosion of routing table, exposed in the development process of the IPv4-based Internet, and aiming at the problems of the existing studies in the field of extensions of IP address space, we propose a hierarchical address structure based on the combination of autonomous system number and IP address (ASN+IP). The autonomous system number is encapsulated into the IP packets, making it a part of the IP address, thus the IP address space can be greatly extended, the Routing Information Base (RIB) can also be compressed greatly. Study results show that, under the architecture of ASN+IP, theoretically IP address space theory can be extended to216times, and the RIB compression can achieve an average degree of about20%of the original.Firstly, this article describes and analyzes the architecture of the widely used IPv4addresses. Then on the basis of ensuring and maintaining the architecture of the original characteristics of IPv4address space, this article tries to improve the IPv4protocol, and forms a new Internet architecture ASN+IP address space model system, then focuses on the addressing scheme ASN+IP model, the communication process. On the final part of this article, two internet protocol, BGP protocol and the DNS protocol, are presented to explain the influence that ASN+IP model brings to other Internet protocols.
