The letter take the settlement ruins of Zhengzhou&Luoyang area as main research object. By researched several technology such as the target extraction from remote sensing images, morphological image processing, image filter, GIS spatial analysis, ArcGIS development, delaunay triangular grid, voronoi diagram carefully with suitable remoting sense images and DEM data, the letter get some meaningful results.The archaeology of is the mainly parts Central Plains archaeology, the deeply research of this area has great importance. Nowadays, lots of deeply researches about it have done, but there are still many data have not taken into account, such as satellite remote sensing images.In the previous researches, only line water information was treated. To overcome this problem, this paper extracts water information from LandsatTM satellite images. There still other problems in previous researches, such like the accuracy of DEM data is low, the buffer analysis is not exactly enough. To deal with these, the letter use high accuracy DEM data instead, and design a new conception "water distance" to replace the buffer analysis. With the new DEM data, water information and settlement location information, the paper do slope analysis, aspect analysis and "water distance" calculation. And the paper established a spatial information database with the spatial data for the step research about the settlement ruins archaeology of Zhengzhou&Luoyang area.The details and the results of the research are as follows:The letters fulfilled four kinds of water information extraction methods, and then create a new model on the basis of band-relation based algorithm to avoid the disadvantages of the existing methods. And the letter does some mathematical morphology processing, and filter optimization about the water information. The new algorithm is effective:Small River can be found out, less shadow of hills, the overall accuracy is higher and consistent with the actual situation.The letter put forward the conception of "water distance" which means the distance from the settlement site to the nearest water to overcome the only line water information problem. Take the water information extracted from LandsatTM images as main data, use buffer analysis technology and dichotomy algorithm fulfill the water distance calculation.The letter obtained slope data and aspect data on the basis of ASTER GDEM data, and explain the aspect data with ArcGIS development technology. With the Delaunay and Voronoi technology, the letter give a solution on how to get the area and center of point set.The letter do a experiment on Zhengzhou Luoyang area, and made a conclusion:From Peiligang cultural to Longshan cultural, the sites got far and far from water appropriate and the sites agglomeration more likely happened on the place which slope blow1degree, and at the same time, the sites chose south aspect more often. With the time element, the letter research the sites group area, sites identity, and the area growing speed, and the data shows the possibility of "social polarization appear in Yangshao cultural and aggravate in Longshan cultural "is large.
