Recently, vision ranging system has been widely used in the areas closely related to the daily production and life, such as intelligent robots, intelligent transportation road surveillance system, rail and road system, public security investigation, remote sensing and telemetry technology.etc. Vision system has laid the foundation for the development of information technology and production, which can improve the updating of the system. Vision system based on USB camera has the advantages of high portability and system stability.This paper studies the monocular images ranging technology of the distance between the camera and the object from the aspect of image sequence analysis. The study based on the differences between successive frames of blurred edges and the target object of continuous frame image forming in the image plane. Then the paper provides the innovative method of image feature extraction during the research process of digital image preprocessing. The new method improves the algorithm of edge feature extraction, and developers the eight differential operator and the direction angle functions to achieve rapid detection of the edge and line feature detection. Finally, this paper describes the digital image processing platform. Combining programming ideas of dual-threaded application, it gives the overall design process of images ranging system software. For the ranging algorithm, the paper gives monocular image defocus measurement and target characteristics distance measurement including detailed experimental procedures. At last, this paper proves the image distance algorithm is feasibility and effectiveness by summarizing image experimental data.The system application design is produced under Microsoft Visual C++compiler environment based on MFC multithreaded applications programming. By programming video capture module, we get a manual single frame images or automatic continuous frame images, and acquire images of automatic sequences based on fixed time interval controlled by timer. The paper also includes a conversion module for transferring24-bit true color image format to8-bit grayscale image, an image enhancement module of removing image noise and the target image projection, image segmentation module for extracting target feature and other digital image processing modules combined with Open CV camera calibration for extracting feature points conveniently.With the development of the vision field and the improvement of intelligent robot control technology, we believe that monocular image ranging technology is a subject worth of study. It can bring a revolution for information industry.
