With the rapid development of mobile communication, in order to improve competitiveness of3G technology in the emerging broadband wireless access market, the3GPP organization proposed the Long Term Evolution (LTE) project. Compared to the3G technology, LTE introduced OFDM and MIMO as key technologies of physical layer, which can significantly improve the rate of data transmission. The channel estimation technology in wireless communications is an important research topic. The channel estimation has a significant impact for detection and demodulation of the received signal.This thesis mainly studies the channel estimation of wireless communication system channel estimation techniques. Firstly, it describes the background of LTE technology and the radio channel characteristics. Then it focuses on the OFDM channel estimation technology. The main work is as follows:(1)In order to eliminate the noise within the cyclic prefix of the traditional DFT channel, we propose a new OFDM channel estimation algorithm criterion based on information theory. By contrast with the traditional simulation algorithm, the mean square error performance of the proposed algorithm is better than the traditional algorithm and can get a more accurate channel estimation result.(2) A new channel estimation studying point based on compressed sensing has become a hot research area in recent years. In order to resolve the existing algorithms’ problem in practical applications, an improved OMP algorithm is proposed. It adds the backtracking in the choice of atoms, which increases the accuracy of signal reconstruction and improves the estimation performance. The simulation shows that the improved algorithm can effectively improve the channel estimation performance.
