In order to promote the process of industrialization for the Time Division Long Term Evolution Advanced (TD-LTE-A) project of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), it is essential to accomplish the standardization research for TD-LTE-A as soon as possible. As an important part of the standardization for TD-LTE-A, Radio Frequency (RF) characteristics become the Entry point of this paper. This paper focuses on the effects of RF characteristics on the reception of the downlink OFDM signals and the Adjacent Channel Interference (ACI) of inter-systems, and a thorough research of them was conducted.Firstly, the RF architecture for wireless communication system was introduced, the principles of RF impairments were proposed, and the main RF parameters for transceiver were presented.Secondly, on the basis of the analyses for the models of RF impairments, including phase noise, IQ imbalance and power amplifier nonlinearities, the joint model of these three RF impairments was built. After that, the joint effects of these three RF impairments on the reception of OFDM signal were analyzed from the aspects of bit error rate and received constellations. Finally, the ACI between TD-LTE-A systems was mainly researched. On the basis of having analyzed the principles of generating ACI, the interference scenarios of inter-systems ACI were presented. After that, a system simulation platform was set up. The effects of inter-system ACI on system performance were simulated, and the great impacts of inter-site distance and guard bandwidth on the ACI were discussed. According to the simulation results, some suggestions for the deployment of TD-LTE-A system were presented.
