With the rapid development of global internet industry, the requirements of transmission capacity and quality increase year by year. In order to meet these requirements, many frontier studies on high speed and high capacity transmission have been conducted in many optical communication research institutions. These studies need to use the multi-carrier light source as the transmitter.One of the promising multi-carrier light sources is the scheme based on recirculating frequency shifter as the result of this scheme has the notable advantages of low driving voltages and flexible control of frequency spacing.However, to meet the needs of transmission systems, there are some problems of this scheme needed to solve. Firstly, the output tone-to-noise ratio is just only about20dB. Secondly, the peak power difference of sub-carriers is about2dB, this will result in varying degrees of damage in different carrier transport process by affect the receiving end judgment.To solve the problems mentioned above, the paper based on the existing research foundation of the multi-carrier source, combine with the basic principle of the multi-carrier source devices such as EDFA, polarization controller and the continuous wave light source, and analyze the corresponding simulation scheme and solution. The paper mainly consists of following parts,1. Brief introducing relevant theoretical knowledge, analyze and introduce some important devices.in the loop including Er Doped Fiber Amplifier, continuous wave light source and polarization controller. According to the realities of the devices mentioned above, build analysis model based on the SSB multi-carrier source system, lay a good foundation for the analysis of the third and fourth chapter2. Studying the factors that affect the flatness ratio of output of multi-carrier, simulating the maximum output power of EDFA and angles of three plates of polarization controller that affect the flatness ratio.3. Studying the factors that affect the tone-to-noise ratio of output of multi-carrier, simulating the noise figure of EDFA and line-width of continuous wave light source that affect the tone-to-ratio of the output, and proposing a novel method to improve the tone-to-noise ratio.4. Establish experiment system, verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis, and get flat and high tone-to-noise ratio multi-carrier output under the guidance of the theory.In summary, the paper does systematic research on the flatness and tone-to-noise ratio of the multi-carrier source. Based on the mathematical model of the multi-carrier source, analyze amplifier and polarization factors which influence the flatness of light source, analyze ASE noise and phase noise factor that influence the tone-to-noise ratio. Some important conclusions have been gotten, and the effectiveness and reliability of the conclusions have been verified by experiment.
