Recently, the emergence of cloud computing, big data, high-definition multimedia services boost data center (DC). Massive information interchange, along with the uncertainty of traffic flow capacity and direction among the data centers challenge the traditional fixed grid and single modulation mode WDM networks. In order to address these problems, network virtualization based on flexible bandwidth optical networks emerges. Flexible bandwidth optical networks provide variable-bandwidth for services. Network virtualization provides optimized configuration for network resource. Optical network virtualization based on DC-converged flexible bandwidth optical network is the trend of future optical network. Therefore, to improve the reliability of service mapped onto the optical network, the survivability problem of virtual optical network becomes very critical. From the aspect of network-element failure probability, this paper builds optical network failure probability model. Then, optical network survivable mapping mechanism based on failure probability model, which includes control system and algorithm analysis, is deeply researched to increase the reliability of data center services. There are three main innovation achievements listed as follows.Firstly, based on the reliability theory, the feasibility of research network survivability is introduced from the perspective of failure probability. Series-parallel system analytical method is adopted to calculate the total failure probability of a dedicated-path protection service. Moreover, in light of the cut set concept in Graph Theory, full network connectivity approximate analytical method is proposed to compute the total network failure probability.Secondly, for the problem of optical network virtualization, we put forward a virtual optical network failure probability model, considering the physical network-element failure probability as a part of resource pool to do virtual network mapping. Then, the virtual optical network survivable mapping control system based on failure probability model is designed. It can coordinate the resource of every layer, provide flexible service access and improve service reliability.Thirdly, for the survivability virtual network mapping problem, a novel metric named virtual optical network failure probability (VON-FP) is presented to measure the survivability of virtual optical network mapping. Considering different line rates of flexible bandwidth optical networks, a failure-probability-aware virtual optical network embedding (FPA-VONE) algorithm and baseline algorithm are developed. Simulation results show that FPA-VONE algorithm provides lower average VON-FP than baseline algorithm, as well as frequency slots usage.
