In recent years, with the rapid development of Internet, more and more network services are provided according to the geographic location of the user’s IP address. The process of IP addresses associated with geographic location is called on IP location. In today’s Internet service, IP location plays an important role. However, due to the large range of the geographic location information corresponding to real IP address is difficult to obtain, now there are still some problems to be solved for providing accurate IP location-based services. Therefore, to design and implement an IP address location system is important.This paper studies the existing techniques and methods of IP location, compares some IP location Internet services, analyzes the characteristics of IP location and wherein the problems--the accuracy and reliability of IP location is poor, designs and proposes an IP location program based on the network topology measurement according to its features and difficulties. The program will divide IP location system into four layer--data acquisition layer, data processing layer, data correction layer and data visualization layer. The first of the program is to detect targets extracted from IP address database by traceroute, and to preprocess, statistical and cluster the obtained raw data. Then based on the topology of IP addresses obtained by the network measurement, analyzing and correcting IP address information to obtain a more accurate and higher reliability of the IP address database. Finally, mapping the geographic information and IP address, providing a visual display and query interface to enhance interoperability of system and the user experience. And the program used in scientific research--China Internet IP map system. To verify the feasibility of the program, on the basis of more accurate IP address database, visual displaying China’s Internet IP topology and traffic, delays and other information in the map is realized.This paper presents and designs an IP address location program based on the network topology measurement, and to achieve the system which has good accuracy, high reliability, visualization display and query. The system has strong scalability, can be applied to various types of user location-related Internet services, and has a certain application value.
