The development of MIMO technology has brought new hope to boosting data rates regardless of the limited bandwidth. To further realize the potential of spatial multiplexing, the next leap will be accounting for the three-dimensional real world in which electromagnetic waves propagate. Not surprisingly the3D MIMO technology is embraced by various mainstream communications systems (long term evolution (LTE), LTE-advanced and beyond) thanks to its potential to boost system capacity and alleviate interference. Due to3D MIMO channel model is the basis for assessment of the relevant technology, this paper focuses on the study and simulated assessment of establishment and calibration for3D MIMO channel model, based on which takes a three-dimensional beamforming simulation analysis. This paper lays foundation for further research work, and provides strong support for the standardization of3D MIMO technology at the same time.Firstly, the article starts with the background and research situation of3D MIMO technology, then analyses the shortcoming of current MIMO technology and the technical advantage of3D MIMO. In view of the current two dimensional channel can’t fully exert the advantages of3D MIMO, this article proposes to establish a reasonable scientific three dimensional channel model. Then take a brief description of key technologies involved in the study, including antenna array technology, MIMO channel modeling technology and beamforming technology, laying adequate theoretical foundation for the follow-up study.Secondly, this paper discusses the build and calibration of3D MIMO channel model primarily. By taking the geometry-based statistical model method, this paper talks about the detailed procedure of3D MIMO channel modeling. In order to ensure the accuracy and scientificity of the channel model, this article takes qualitative analysis and quantitative calibration for the simulation results through two level:large scale parameters and small scale parameters. Finally, this paper researches and analyzes the beamforming technology, which is the most important applications of MIMO technology. Beamforming technology currently can only shape in the horizontal plane, but can’t achieve the UE-level dynamic shaping. In order to take advantage of the spatial freedom adequately and optimize system performance, this paper takes a double codebook scheme based on limited feedback, achieving three-dimensional beamforming based on the3D MIMO channel model. Finally the analysis of the system performance in different scenarios fully proved the advantage of this scheme for improving system performance.
