With the improvement of the technology level and the living level of people, the demand of art crafts becomes more and more, especially on the crafts with strange and vivid shape, and the DIY crafts, which are often out of stock. In order to seize the business opportunities and expand the sale channels, it is important to produce these products in batch to meet the consumers demand. However, the traditional design methods cannot meet the requirements to measure the surface data of such arch crafts. Reverse engineering provides a new way to the re-design and re-manufacture of small art crafts.To get the surface profile information is a prerequisite for the re-design and re-manufacture of products. A3D profile measurement system is designed based on visual laser principle for the measurement of small DIY art crafts. The system scans the object surface contour by a laser displacement sensor with the vertical movement, and the object is put on the rotating platform.3D point data will be received after data processing and analysis. Compared with contact measurement methods, this system can realize the measurement faster, and keep the sampling data more integrity.The research contents include:(1) Basing on the three-dimensional measurement technology and combine with the existing problems in the measurement, a3D profile measurement method is proposed based on laser displacement sensor.(2) A3D measurement system is designed based on the measurement principle and combined measurement requirements.(3) The measurement method is tested on the designed measurement system, and the measurement is processed and analyzed.
