Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) is one of the most promising techniques proposed inrecent years. Because of its local field enhancement and subwavelength local characteristics, SPPsmakes the light field achieving localization within the range of nanoscale in photonic componentspossible. Photonic devices based on SPPs can not only break through the diffraction limit, but has alot of special features. Therefore, the study of optical devices based on Surface Plasmon Polaritonsbecomes a hot topic in recent years. This thesis summarizes the history and trends of SPPs, and introduces the basic concepts ofSPPs as well as the FDTD numerical calculation method. The main work of this paper is as follows:On the basis of the traditional three-layer MIM waveguide structure, we improved thewaveguide structure and propose a new structure to increase the propagation distance of SPPs. Wesimulated the excitation and coupling conditions of SPPs in the case of different thickness of thecentral layer. Improved MIM structure may stimulate SPPs, and the SPPs produced at upper andlower sides of the center layer interface, will occur coupling in certain conditions. Improved MIMstructure plays a role in increasing the surface plasmon propagation distance. We studied the metal transmission slot structure based on Surface Plasmons Polaritons, and theresult shows that when the thickness of the metal thin film is an integer multiple of the cycle time ofthe standing wave, transmitted light intensity has a maximum value. Light passes through the singleslit structure is equivalent to psss an F-P cavity. We designed a T-shaped slit cavity structure. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulationsshow that, when the metal film C in a particular location can achieve directional excitation and themaximum splitting ratio can reach about17.6.The simulation results show that the silver film lengthC has an effect on SPPs splitting ratio,The slit width has little impact on splitting ratio.Based on the above studies, We studied the optical power distribution of T-shaped cavity andoptical switch issues; We found that the ratio of width of two waveguides will affect the power ratioof the two output ports, and the initial phase of the two beams of light can determine the state of thestructure, in order to achieve the regulation and control of light.
