Frame Rate Up-Conversion (FRUC) is a kind of video image processing technology aiming at take the way of interpolating new video frames in temporal domain, which can not only improves the frame rate, but also improves the performance of the video image, by reducing the LCD hold time and motion blur. With its important application value, it has been widely studied and has been thought much by the practical operators in recent years.FRUC contains two basic elements:motion estimation, motion compensated frame interpolation. For motion estimation, in order to obtain the true motion vector of the motion object, when applies to FRUC, at decoder we can take two methods:take some post-processing strategy for the motion vectors extracted from the decoder, which will make the motion vector field more smooth; or re-estimate more accurate motion vectors at the decoder. According to these analysis, we propose in this paper the main contents and innovations as follows:We study the multi-resolution and variable block-size motion estimation method to estimate the motion vector field, and develop a motion vector evaluation criterion. On the basis of the received information, such as bi-direction error and block residual, classify the reliability of motion vectors. For traditional motion compensated frame interpolation usually resulted hole regions (i. e, there is no motion trajectory passes) and overlapped block in the interpolated frames, we studied a motion compensated algorithm, which can reduce block artifacts and hole regions. Finally, experiments results shows the validity of our method.
