Due to high bandwidth efficiency and robustness against frequency-selective fading channels, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is used to achieve high data rate. Because of orthogonal subcarriers, the system can reach high spectrum utilization. Multi-input and multi output (MIMO) technology employs space diversity to provide significant communication capacity. Because of the above advantages, they are the key technologies for future mobile communication systems and the combination of MIMO and OFDM becomes an inevitable trend. This thesis will discuss the channel estimation techniques in MIMO-OFDM Very High Throughput(VHT) Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) systems.This thesis is based on an "Important National Science&Technology Specific Projects"——"research on the key technologies of the Very High Throughput Wireless Local Network". The project does research on the system design, validation for key technology of VHT WLAN system. According to the channel estimation key technology on the VHT WLAN system project, the thesis is arranged.Channel estimation is the research point of this thesis. First of all, the principle, performance of various channel estimation algorithms are introduced and analyzed. Secondly, the design and implementation in the VHT WLAN system are described detailedly, and the hardware design is optimized using more suitable algorithms. Thirdly, the virtual sub-carrier effect are addressed and analyzed, and the methods improving system performance are addressed and implemented. Fourthly, based on the scene of carrier aggregation, the channel estimation technology related to carrier aggregation is researched, and two hardware designs are addressed and implemented. Finally, compress sensing techonology are analyzed and simulated in VHT WLAN to improve transmission performance.Relying on the WLAN project, channel estimation technology is treated as a key research in this thesis. Implementation and optimization are mainly researched in this thesis.
