Integrating of the technologies including sensor technology,embeddedtechnology,wireless communications and network technology,wireless sensor networkplays a huge role in areas of military and civilian,which is paid more and moreattention and more persons begin to research on it. Nodes in the sensor network arepowered by the battery whose energy is limited and usually work in the geographicalareas which are dangerous and complex. So the battery cannot achieve replacementand supplement timely. Therefore,reducing the energy consumption of nodes toprolong the network life cycle is an important goal in the design of wireless sensornetwork. The excellent network topology control technology is conducive to nodes tosave energy to prolong the network lifetime. So,network topology control is one of themost important techniques to achieve this goal.Network topology control means that under the premise of meeting networkcoverage and connectivity, a data forwarding optimization network structure can beformed through the power control and selection of backbone node and elimination ofunnecessary communication link between nodes. Good network topology and topologycontrol algorithm can improve the efficiency of routing and MAC protocol to prolongthe network lifetime by reducing the energy consumption.This paper is based on the background of wireless sensor network and someresearches are made about wireless sensor network topology control technology tosolve the problems of energy consuming quickly resulting in short networklifetime.The achievements include the following aspects:(1)Aiming to the problem in LEACH which isolates the geographic locationinformation and results the clustering uneven,and basing on the study of GAFalgorithm in the virtual network division, this paper designs a method of hexagon clustering which achieves the aim of clustering evenly and lower energy consumption.(2)Aiming to the problem that typical algorithms don’t consider the factors of noderesidual energy and other factors, resulting in the problem of some nodes with lowerresidual energy becoming cluster heads and premature death,this paper considers thethree factors including residual energy of nodes, node degree and the times of nodes ascluster head when selecting the cluster head to solve the problem of cluster headpremature death.(3)Aiming to the problem that LEACH algorithm doesn’t consider the routingstrategy between nodes and the nodes communicate with the base station directly,resulting in greater energy consumption and premature death of nodes. Based on theresearch of the minimum spanning tree algorithm and MTE algorithm,this paperdesigns the intra cluster and inter cluster communication strategy respectively toreduce the network lifetime. On this basis, simulations are made using NS2and thesimulation results show that the topology control algorithm is well suited forlarge-scale network, balances the node energy and prolongs the network life cycle.
