Software Distribution Management Base On SCCM And Software Packaging Assistant

With the growing of company, there be more and more desktop terminals required dailycontrol and maintenance. IT helpdesk engineer can’t use the old solutions to maintainthousands desktop or laptop manually. IT departments need to develop the appropriateprocesses and use appropriate technology to unified software and hardware management. Itwill be helpful for reduce IT management costs and help to solve the problem of softwaredistribution.Firstly, we introduce the SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) desktopmanagement system. Which meet the requirement of software distribution in company, suchas office location, head count of each city, basic IT infrastructure constructions. The SCCMhelp IT engineer control and monitor the whole process of software distribution. The paperintroduces three key parts of the software distribution settings.(1) Package settings of software distribution. We introduce the general information andrun method settings of package. SCCM will auto replicate the source installationpackage to those related distribution point servers for the preparation of softwaredistribution package download via client. The action started timely and no need waitfor the other day.(2) Collection settings of software distribution. We introduce several methods of how tocreate the deployment target collections. We can use one or several methods to createone collection and set the collections by hierarchy mode. The hierarchy mode helpsdeployment step by step and forbid the unknown issue during the process of softwaredistribution.(3) Advertisement settings of software distribution. We introduce the general informationand run method settings of distribution. Advertisement help to set the run rules of thepackage on target clients.Secondary, the paper introduces how to use the monitoring system. With the monitoringsystem for the software distribution, we can easy know the information of softwaredistribution status of every step. Such as whether clients receive the distribution informationor not, the software distribution successfully rate, failure cases rate and error code collection.With the report IT management team can timely get the software distribution status report and timely response with the wrong distribution settings.Finally, we describe a new solution of pack software installation package. We use AutoItto create a template assistant tool for create the software installation package which is suitablefor software distribution and support for company daily services. The template assistant toolwill create the pack coding with the standard installation process, the standard file icon, thestandard user interface and installation log creator. The template assistant tool will collect thenecessary information of the software installation package and automatically create the packcoding. With the pack coding, IT engineer can directly get the enterprise standard installationpackage. Some function model will support the special request of installation package. ITengineer can use the tools to create a standard installation package pack coding with less timethan before. Also the standard pack coding will help to forbid human error. With the familiaruser interface, end user will more easy to get the required information of new deployment.The installation log will help helpdesk engineer easy to find the root cause of installationfailure. Using the SCCM software distribution error tracking reports with the softwareinstallation package created with template assistant tool, the software distributionadministrators can get the software distribution status in time.
