In recent years,with the rapid development of computer software and hardware, medical imaging technology has a great progress,especially in helping doctors making a diagnosis decision.More and more doctors prefer to obtain patient’s information from the medical image. Nowadays,how to make the image more clear becomes a hotspot.MRI is the most useful way to reflect the spinal cord lesions,especially the structure of soft or nervous tissue.Human nervous system is mainly composed of the brain and spinal cord. Spinal Cord Injury would cause a gurat influnce on human’s life.The Diffusion Tensor Image provide doctors a direct way to realize the damage in spinal cord.This paper proposed a processing system for cervical diffusion imaging(DTI) based on Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit(ITK) and Visualization Toolkit(VTK). The system has a series of modules, including data input, multi-plane display, surface rendering, DTI data calculation and interaction.The data input module makes progressing the image from Philip device possible; multi-plane display provides more details to the physicians;get a intuitive understanding of the issue through the3D reconstruction;make the relationship between spinal cord injury and clinical parameters in the DTI calculation;get the distance,angle and area information form the interaction module.At the same time, the system also covers most parts of the MRI image processing, such as selection of region of interest (ROI), calculation of DTI and clinical diagnostic indicators:fractional anisotropy (FA).Especially, a automatic selected region of interest(ROI) method combined with VTK and Snake algorithm is applied into the interactive module.In this paper,the medical images comes form a spinal coal injury patient.Visual Studio2008with VTK and ITK open source library composes the related experimental platform.
