In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet, data-intensiveapplications and mass data produced by these applications have an explosive growth,however, the traditional storage systems have been unable to meet the demand ofmodern enterprise mass data storage management, thus cloud storage technologyarises at the historic moment. Distributed file system, with its high availability andgood scalability, have been the foundation of cloud storage and have the ability tomeet the demand of cloud storage. In a certain extent, although cloud computingtechnology improve the utilization of IT resources, there exists some problems such assecurity threat, performance loss, management problem and cost issues.This thesis is studied based on the virtual machine management problems. Theimages of virtual machine are mainly stored in the local storage of single point whichmay caused data loss by the failure of a single point. Some images are stored in theexpensive shared storage system which may increase the unnecessary cost. Second,the use of virtual machine attached storage doesn’t support online resize and can’tadapt to the changing demand automatically. It reduces the flexibility of using virtualmachine. In addition, the current popular cloud management platform has a lack ofunified management of block device.To solve the problems mentioned above, main study of this paper is as follows:(1) Study and analysis of the current popular distributed file system, CephDistributed File System, study its mechanism of reading and writing and the suitablecharacteristics of this thesis;(2) Do a detail analysis of the problem and challenge caused by the storage usagescene of virtual machine, combined with the advantage of the Ceph Distributed FileSystem, this paper put forward a solution which solved the problems mentionedabove;(3) Make a detail design and implementation of block device dynamicmanagement system. Make an extension based on the OpenNebula cloud managementplatform. What’s more, in order to facilitate the administrator’s usage, the CephDistributed File System management function is mixed together. (4) Designed contrast experiment and functional test in detail and gives thedetails of the test results.Functional test results show that block device dynamic management system canmeet the needs of virtual machine using storage. While contrast test results bycomparing the virtual machine using block device and local storage, combined withhigh availability and scalability of block device based on Ceph Distributed FileSystem, it is concluded that block device can replace the local store in the scene thatvirtual machine uses storage.
