The Juvenile is the internal publication of the European Branch of the ChineseCommunist Youth Party(ECCYP, late named European Branch of the ChineseCommunist Youth Corps, ECYC.),which is created by the outstanding members of thework-study students at the beginning of the1920s in Europe. Although the Juvenile isjust one of the journals published to propagate Marxism by CCP in the early, liking onesmall common tree stands in a numerous forest, it is ECCYP’s enlightened publication, and there is a large number of excellent members of the early CCP participating in itsfoundation and edition. It’s an important elements that can’t be avoided if you study theintroduction of Marxism through the European path, which reflecting the ideologicalworld of the early CCP members when they received and learned Marxism.Specialized academic research on the Juvenile has not been found so far. The relevantresearches barely concerns this journal from the history of Marxism’s early introductionin China, or just come to it without detailed research from the perspective of the historyof the work-study movement, or generalize its core ideas and subjects briefly from theangle of CCP’s early history and its organizations’ activities, all of which didn’t givesufficient consideration for China’s reality in that time, lacking a subtle review of itsfounding process and purpose, the relation with the ECCYP, points and its sources, promotional meaning and features. With the method of a combing intellectual historywith social history as well as contextual analysis, the thesis will pay more attention tothe above-mentioned aspects.Firstly, the Juvenile was aimed to controvert with anarchism and boycott thepromotional barriers set up by YMCA, propagating communism and explain strategiesfor the Comintern and CCP. Thirdly, by analyzing the authors and introducing thetheoretical perspectives during the debate with anarchism, we can get a thoroughunderstanding of the Juvenile’s edition, discourse environment and its stand. The Juvenile states that the task of the Chinese is to carry out the anti-imperialismand anti-feudalism revolution, struggling with the proposals of Good Guys Governmentand Development Industry, clarifying that the only way to save China is communism and a united front is needed at that time, which places theoretical foundation for the firstKMT-CCP cooperation. The Juvenile’s theoretical sources include the proactiveattention to the worldwide communist movement, the influence of the Comintern andthe strong historic force of October Revolution.Taking a comprehensive look at the Juvenile, we’ll find several characteristics. Firstly, the Juvenile lays stress on agitation and inspiration of the youth’s spirit, whichcombined with the purpose of proletarian enlightenment. Secondly, influenced by theComintern’s efforts of worldwide revolution, the Juvenile formed a worldwideperspective and feelings, and even a idea of cosmopolitanism. Thirdly, the destructivepower of the First World War deepened people’s understanding of the shortcomings ofthe capitalist system, resulting in potential neglecting the positive side of the capitalist, extreme fear of its negative aspects and an attempt to circumvent capitalist system.
