With the rapid promotion of the connection speed between home and internet and thedeepening digitization of traditional media, the scale of users using the Internet for digitalentertainment is expending gradually, which makes the field of pay films and TV showsbecome unprecedented hot. Especially in American market, more and more well-knownretailers such as Wal-Mart, Bestbuy, etc. associated with online media solutions providerand manufacturers of embedded equipment, making the selling and leasing of films and TVseries available on the Internet, introducing their own online digital entertainmentapplication in respective terminals. The equipment such as digital set-top box, Blu-rayplayer, intelligent TV, tablet computer, intelligent mobile phone, and Sony PlayStation3,Microsoft XBOX360used as terminals of users’ consumption, making it possible thatconsumers can enjoy high-definition digital movies and TV Shows whenever and whereverthey want.Because of the diversity of equipment, the existing online solutions for digitalentertainment usually need to be designed and developed according to the platform. Topromote the application program into market as quick as possible, only the platforms withhigher popularity tend to be taken targeted development. However, with a variety of newembedded devices being developed, the systems and development schemes of those becomevaried as well. If using the traditional online solutions for digital entertainment, it will notonly cause the increasing complexity of the development and device integration of digitalentertainment solutions, but also cost a large number of future maintenance. In order to payconcentration on the development of core functions and user experience, it is imperative topropose a general solution which can be rapidly deployed, being capable of gooduniversality and extensibility on every platform and coexisting with the solutions thatalready had in markets. Based on analysis of online digital entertainment industry, the paper elaborates andanalyzes related technology involved in online digital media, and proposes the generalsolution for online digital entertainment applied to embedded system according to the thecomparative study of existing related technology. The paper focuses on achieving theadaptability and the expansibility of general solution. For the adoption of technologies, thesolution using Websocket, Webservice, and XML endow solutions which with strongadaptability. For the architecture, the solution using multi-tier architecture whichimplemented with the proper design pattern to guarantee the adaptability and theexpansibility. As to the part of the development method, the general solution follows thegeneral develop process of online solutions for digital entertainment, putting the frameworkand communication protocol first, realizing core functions step by step.The paper provides verification tests of function and performance of both the universalsolution for online digital entertainment and the existing solutions. The result shows that theuniversal solution for online digital entertainment can extend its functions, meanwhile, itwill not have any negative impact on user experience and the speed of platform response.
