In the information society nowadays, the demand by people for information is increasing exponentially, which greatly promotes the development of communication industry, especially the development of optical fiber communication industry. The rapid development of optical fiber communication must be accompanied by a large area of the laying cable and a lot of fiber optic cable, the resulting maintenance work has become to be paid more attention, and with the increase of the information carried by cable, the importance is of more obvious for people. In the actual optical cable maintenance, simple、fast、accurate identification of the target cable is required, in this case, the cable identification device with interference structure of Sagnac ring and optical fiber sensing principle application has put on the market, however, distal loop is needed by this kind of structure, and the operation process is complicated, meanwhile, the using of linear Sagnac interference structure can simplify the practical engineering operation flow, which has been successfully applied in the practical engineering maintenance. At the actual construction site, the remote loopback can be skipped in construction process, with the LED display and audio output of the cable identification device, we can identify the target cable quickly and accurately.The feasibility of linear Sagnac structure application in cable identification in engineering is proved through theoretical analysis in this paper. Reference design dual fiber optical cable identification device, to the demand of engineering design requirements, a single type optical cable identification device structure based on linear Sagnac interference is designed.The single fiber cable identification device based on linear Sagnac interference structure is mainly composed of the following modules:power supply module, single fiber module, light source module, photoelectric detection module, signal processing module, signal output module and voice communication module.Compared with the dual fiber optical cable identification device before, the single type optical cable identification device can realize field spray power supply operation, there is no need for maintenance personnel to implement optical fiber loop operation in the remote computer room, and the audio output signal can be transmitted through the wireless communication module to the knocker’s mobile phone, so all the cable identification operation can be completed by a single person. Compared with the dual fiber optical cable identification device, the single type optical cable identification device greatly simplifies the cable identification work procedures and can reduce the number of people required for cable maintenance engineering.
