Since appearing the barcode is widely used in the field of commercial,transportation, warehousing industry, economic and so on, for it has the properties ofauto-input, auto-recognition, auto-statistics. While in the power industry, it has notplayed its full role. On the base of these, Yan Tai Power Supply Co. Ltd launched aresearch on the intelligent meter reading, and the main work of this article is taking aresearch on the bar code recognition system base on the image processing, which is partof the research. The main works and the conclusion of this article can be summarized asfollow.First, a research was taken on the usage of the barcode in the power field,theresearch results indicated that,the usage of the barcode in the barcode in the power fieldis limited,and still has a big market.Then the research on the development,classification,characteristics and theirusage was taken, and the structure,coding rule and decoding principle was study onEAN-13,which was widely used in our country, as a steppingstone in order to recognizethe information on the barcode, taking the advantages and disadvantages of CCD,CMOS, and CIS into comparison, and at last the camera with the sensor of CCD ischosen in this article.The Otsu algorithm was used to filtering the image noise, the test result indicatesthat Otsu algorithm can filter the noise of the image effectively, In order to Improve andenhance the front and background comparison of the image, improve the binarizationquality, the Gamma correction was used in this article, the test result indicates that theGamma correction can enhance the comparison of the front and background comparisonof the image effectively.What’s more, take the principle of the smallest difference of the gray level ischosen to correct the lean of the barcode image, the weighted average theory is chosento gray the image, take the lightness of the image into consideration, the Laplacianalgorithm is chosen to skeleton the image according to the test result. what’s more, wetake different kind of binarization algorithm into comparison, in order to get the bestquality of binarization, finally we chose the Otsu algorithm and Local extreme methodtogether as the binarization algorithm, the test result indicates that this algorithm iseffectively in image binarization.At last, tests is done in order to test whether the result of the bar code recognitionsystem base on the image meets the demand; the test result indicated that therecognition of the method is effective, and meet the demand of this article.This article was a test on the bar code recognition base on the image used in the intelligent meter reading, the conclusion and datasheet acquired in this article can beused as a reference when developing other methods of barcode recognition and theusage of barcode in other fields.
