In recent years, with the rapid development of mobile multimedia communication technology, the requirement of users’data rate is increasing. However, frequency resources that can be used by cellular network are very limited. Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is one of the promising technologies to solve this problem. D2D communication allows the direct communication between devices without the relay of eNB. Compared with the traditional cellular communication, D2D communication can save half of the frequency resource and it has features of high date rate, low delay and low power consumption. Therefore, the study of D2D communication is very important.Firstly, cellular mobile communication system, LTE and D2D communication underlaying LTE network are introduced in the thesis. System performance, session establishment together with channel measurement mechanism of D2D communication are analysed. In addition, the thesis describes the radio resource management of D2D communication in detail.Secondly, the interference in downlink is analyzed and a joint mode selection and resource allocation scheme is proposed based on the location of D2D devices. The scheme selects the appropriate communication mode for D2D users based on the users’ location and allocates the radio resource according to the gain of system throughput together with the constraint of cellular users’rate. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the interference between users and improve the system throughput while guaranteeing the performance of cellular network. Finally, the interference in uplink is analyzed and a joint mode selection and resource allocation scheme is proposed based on the user’s QoS requirements. The scheme selects the appropriate communication mode for D2D users based on users’ service type and allocates the radio resource according to users’QoS requirements together with cellular users’target SINR. The proposed scheme dynamically adjusts the communication mode and resource allocation for D2D users based on the current network status as well as the change of users’requirements. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can obtain higher QoS satisfaction degree and system throughput.
